Terms & Conditions
Effective 3 October 2026
These terms apply to everyone who uses beautyballot.africa and any Beauty Ballot voting page, including voters, contestants, pageant organisers and coaches. Beauty Ballot is operated by Beauty Ballot (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2021/498875/07, a company registered in South Africa (“Beauty Ballot”, “we”, “us”). By using the platform you agree to these terms.
1. What Beauty Ballot does
Beauty Ballot is an online platform for public voting in beauty pageants, fashion events and beauty awards across Africa, together with a pageant coaching directory, etiquette workshops and the Beauty Bosses Awards. Pageants are run by their own organisers. Beauty Ballot provides the voting technology, collects vote payments and pays organisers their share.
2. Who may use the platform
- Anyone may cast the free daily vote.
- To buy votes you must be 18 or older, or have the permission of a parent or guardian who is the account or card holder.
- Contestants under 18 may only be listed with the written consent of a parent or guardian, obtained by the organiser.
- You must give accurate information and keep your login details private. You are responsible for activity on your account.
3. Voting
- Each voter receives one free vote per day per pageant, unless the organiser sets a different rule for that pageant.
- Additional votes are sold in bundles. The price of each bundle is shown before payment. A bundle is credited in full to the contestant you choose and cannot be split between contestants or moved afterwards, so please check your choice before paying.
- Votes are credited only after the payment provider confirms the payment.
- Votes have no cash value and cannot be exchanged, transferred or resold.
- Voting opens and closes at the times set by the organiser. Votes bought after voting closes will not be counted and will be refunded.
- How public votes count towards the final result is decided by each organiser and should be stated in that pageant’s rules.
4. Payments
- Payments are processed by licensed payment providers. Beauty Ballot never sees or stores your full card details.
- PayPal. Vote bundles are currently sold in US dollars through PayPal, which accepts PayPal balances and most debit and credit cards. Your bank may charge a foreign transaction fee and converts the amount at its own rate.
- Paystack (being rolled out). We are adding local currency checkout through Paystack, starting in South Africa in rands and then in the other countries Paystack serves: Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt and Rwanda. Depending on the country this will include local cards, instant EFT, bank transfer and mobile money. Until it is live for a pageant, PayPal remains the payment method.
- Where both options are available, the price for each option is shown at checkout.
5. Refunds
Refunds are handled under our Refund Policy. In short, votes that have been credited are not refundable, but you will be refunded if you were charged twice, charged without votes being credited, or charged after voting closed, or if a pageant is cancelled before the result is decided.
6. Pageant organisers
- An organiser who lists a pageant receives 70 percent of net vote revenue. Beauty Ballot keeps 30 percent. Net means gross vote sales less the payment provider’s fees, and nothing else.
- There is no setup fee, listing fee, monthly fee or per contestant fee.
- The revenue share agreed for a pageant is fixed in writing and will not change while that pageant is running.
- Payouts are made by EFT into the bank account of the pageant, or of the organisation that runs it. Where the pageant is not a registered entity, payment is made to the person named as organiser in the agreement. For pageants outside South Africa, payouts are made to a bank or mobile money account in the pageant’s country where Beauty Ballot supports that country.
- Payouts are made within 14 working days of the organiser’s request.
- While a pageant is running, an organiser may request an early payout once their available balance is at least R500 (or the equivalent in local currency). There is no minimum on the final payout after voting closes.
- Revenue collected in US dollars through PayPal is converted to rand at the rate PayPal applies when the funds are transferred to Beauty Ballot, and the organiser’s share is calculated on that rand amount less fees.
- Funds may be held where a payment is disputed, refunded or reversed, or where there is evidence of vote manipulation, until the matter is resolved.
- Organisers are responsible for the information, images and rules they publish on their pageant pages, for obtaining contestant consent, and for running their pageant fairly. There is no exclusivity and no minimum term, and organisers may export their data at any time.
7. Fair voting
Automated voting, bots, scripts, multiple accounts used to get around the free vote limit, stolen cards and any other manipulation are prohibited. We may remove votes we reasonably believe were obtained this way, suspend the accounts involved and withhold the related revenue. Where a contestant or organiser is involved, we will notify the organiser.
8. Content and conduct
- You may not post content that is violent, sexual, discriminatory, hateful, defamatory, unlawful or infringes anyone’s rights.
- You may not harass, threaten, impersonate or bully any contestant, voter, coach or organiser, or post anyone’s private information.
- You may not interfere with the platform, attempt to access it without authorisation, or upload harmful code.
- You may not send spam to other users.
- We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these terms.
9. Coaching directory
Coaches listed in the directory are independent and are not employed by Beauty Ballot. Basic listings are free and Beauty Ballot takes no share of coaching fees. Coaches who offer services to anyone under 18 must provide a valid police clearance certificate before that part of their listing is shown. Agreements for coaching are between the coach and the client.
10. Liability
We work to keep the platform available and accurate, but we cannot guarantee it will be uninterrupted or free of errors. To the extent permitted by law, Beauty Ballot is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for the conduct of organisers, contestants, coaches or other users. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.
11. Privacy
We handle personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013, as set out in our Privacy Policy.
12. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time and will post the new version here with its effective date. Changes do not alter the revenue share already agreed for a pageant that is running.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction.
